The Accidental Photographer: How a Canon Rebel Sparked a Passion
Michael didn’t initially set out to become a photographer. Both he and his wife were assistant band directors at their local high school, and while they worked, an amateur photographer among the parents was capturing special moments of their children. It wasn’t until his daughter received a Canon Rebel as she headed to art school that Michael took an interest in photography.
After a few lessons from his daughter, he was hooked. His first DSLR opened up a new world of creativity, and he quickly upgraded to a Nikon D750. As he experimented and grew more confident, people began noticing his work and asking him to take photos for their families—even weddings! Despite his initial nerves, Michael embraced the challenge and began taking photography seriously, especially with high school seniors. His passion for photography had officially taken root.
Building the Dream Studio—Literally
Five years ago, Michael started to prepare for his retirement from teaching and his transition to becoming a full-time photographer. A key part of this plan was finding the perfect plot of land where he could create his dream studio. His search led him to a 3-acre property with an old barn and a 150-year-old house—a project that would allow him to not only create the perfect studio space but also provide a new home for his daughter.
After years of hard work, including everything from installing plumbing to setting up electrical systems, Michael’s studio officially opened its doors in March. The space is perfect for his sessions, and he’s now preparing for one of his most exciting ventures: Santa Memories Sessions, where he will offer children a magical experience with Santa, capturing moments they’ll remember for a lifetime.

His studio is now fully equipped and ready to host several Santa Memories Sessions in October and November, making the most of the festive season.
